Inside Look at the Historic Fort Harrison Helps Locals Learn About the Church of Scientology

The Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization provides monthly tours of the Fort Harrison to the public

In addition to our community and non-profit events, we invite locals once a month to see the iconic building, which is part of their heritage.”

— Amber Skjelset, Manager of the Scientology Information Center

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, US, February 28, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Saturday, February 23rd a group of local residents stepped inside the Fort Harrison for a tour that featured the building and its history. The Fort Harrison, purchased in 1975 and located in downtown Clearwater, is the Church of Scientology’s International religious retreat. In 2009, a top-to-bottom restoration was done bringing it back to its original splendor and beyond.

21 guests attended the tour; one special guest was the building’s last manager before it was purchased by the Church. He also shared a bit of history from his tenure on the job and was thankful for the opportunity to view the Fort Harrison today.

“The Fort Harrison has a special place in the hearts of many people,” said Ms. Amber Skjelset – Manager of the Scientology Information Center. “In addition to our community and non-profit events, we invite locals once a month to see the iconic building, which is part of their heritage.”

The 92-year-old grand dame, built in 1927 was the site of cotillions, dinners for the social elite and a place where the “who’s-who” of Clearwater gathered.

At its inception, the Fort Harrison had its own silver set made by the International Silver Company. During the 1920s and 1930s the Silver Company made items such as creamers and mini tea and coffee pots for hotels, restaurants and resorts across the United States. During this period, the Fort Harrison also had its own dinnerware with its iconic profile emblazoned in the center. Currently, the china used in the Fort Harrison’s dining facilities is made by Pikard, the same company that makes china for the US State Department, the Queen of England, and the King of Saudi Arabia.

Some of the spaces guests visited were a 9th floor guest room and parlor, the Auditorium used for community events, and the Fort Harrison Garden. The Hibiscus Restaurant, the Fort Harrison’s fine dining facility was also featured. In 2016, the Hibiscus was recognized for food excellence by the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the world’s oldest international food and wine society.

Guests also got answers to questions about Scientology’s beliefs, symbols and the difference between the staff of the Church’s religious order who are uniformed and parishioners attending Scientology services.

One guest said after the tour, “I had no idea that the Church of Scientology sponsors charity events for non-profits. The fact that those organizations can retain 100% of the proceeds for their cause is awesome.
I honestly don’t know of any other organization that does that.”

To learn more about the next Fort Harrison Tour or the Church of Scientology please contact Ms. Amber Skjelset at (727) 467-6966 or email amber@cos.flag.org. The Scientology Information Center is located at 500 Cleveland Street and is open daily from 10 am to 10 pm.

THE FORT HARRISON:

The Fort Harrison serves as the international religious retreat for the Church of Scientology. With more than 11,000 Scientology Churches, Missions and groups spanning six continents, Scientologists come to Clearwater from all over the world for religious training and ministerial services. The Fort Harrison is made available to community groups and charities for their special events and fundraisers. Scientology is an applied religious philosophy based on the work of L. Ron Hubbard.

Adventure Travel in Mongolia for 2019

Riding horses through flowered filled mountain valleys or exploring the vast Gobi desert, Mongolia should be your adventure travel destination for 2019.

ULAANBAATAR, ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA, February 28, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — If you’re looking for a different place for an adventure travel experience, Mongolia is where you want to head for 2019. The opportunities are endless on the vast open steppes, forested mountains and the great expanses of the Gobi desert. One such outfit offers a variety of back country horse trips, Gobi desert excursions and hiking tours through the cultural and wilderness settings of some of Mongolia’s most iconic parks.

“We often see wildlife, like brown bear, moose, roe deer and wild boar on our horse riding treks”, says Keith Swenson, owner/operator of Stone Horse Expeditions. “Where we travel is some of the finest wilderness Mongolia has to offer”. Swenson has been running this awarding winning outfit for the past 10 years, after spending more than a decade helping with the development of national park management systems and park ranger training.

Stone Horse Expeditions riding adventures take place throughout the Khentii Mountains, one of Mongolia’s biodiversity “hotspots” where, during the summer month’s mountain valleys are filled with a mosaic of wildflowers of endless variety and the autumn colors rival those of North America. "Our horse trips are for the novice to expert rider", says Swenson. "We have horses that can accommodate most levels of experience. We do encourage guests to get a little horse riding in before coming on a trip though".

As a destination, Mongolia is easy to get to, flying into it's capital city, Ulaanbaatar, or taking the Trans Siberian Railway from Beijing or Moscow, an adventure in itself. Mongolians as a people, are open and heartily welcome visitors to their country, where international tourists are still few in number compared to other destinations.

For the non-rider, and to compliment the horse riding in the northern forests and mountains, Stone Horse Expeditions also has their vehicle based Gobi excursions, with one being the "Gobi Crossing", a 10 day trip right across the south Gobi and into some of the more remote desert settings, where Siberian Ibex, Argali (the biggest Bighorn sheep), white and black tail gazelle and a variety of birds of prey can be spotted. If one is lucky, an elusive snow leopard might even make an appearance. Along the way guests ride camels and visit ancient petroglyphs made by civilizations past.

During the autumn season with its pleasant sunny days and crisp nights, hiking by foot through the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park offers the non-horse rider an opportunity to experience the bright display of reds, golds, rusts and yellows of September. These trips are yak cart supported, where the hiker just carry's a light day pack, and the yak cart carries the rest of the gear, meeting in camp each night.

Many travelers using the Trans Siberian Railway can stop in Mongolia for a few days and enjoy it's unique culture and experience countryside life with the herder family ger stay that Stone Horse Expeditions offer. This is a very pleasant way to meet with local people, eat some delicious countryside food and sleep in a traditional ger (yurt) for a few nights before continuing on their train journey.

Mongolia is changing rapidly since it became a democracy in 1990. Mining, with its vast financial input has brought wealth to the country, where it is mostly seen in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. But not everyone has benefited from these developments with the impact mining can make on local communities and the environment.

"Come to Mongolia now", Swenson says, "before it changes too much". For the adventurous traveler, a horse ride through the wilds of Mongolia, moving daily, camping or sleeping in a traditional ger, sounds a great way to spend a bit of time away from the hustle and bustle of most of our lives. A great way to experience nature and another culture. Mongolia…adventure travel for 2019.

Women in the workplace – the hidden 50% who can make you shine!

Deepak Poria, General Manager APAC at Dynama explains how to gain competitive advantage using the latest Workforce Management solutions.

Winning companies are those that look inside their organisation to attract, recruit and retain the best talent regardless of gender.”

— Deepak Poria, General Manager APAC, Dynama

LONDON, UK, February 28, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Like the rest of the world, organisations in Australia are struggling to fill critical roles, with personnel who have the right talent, skills or experience. However, if the latest findings from management consulting firm McKinsey are anything to go by, they are probably looking in the wrong direction. While women constitute 42% of employees, they make up just a quarter of executives and only 10% of CEOs for large, commercial companies.[i] In certain industries, female participation is exceptionally low, for example in cyber-security where only 10% of information security professionals worldwide are women![ii] What is more, many companies don’t make it easy for women in the first place, with recent government statistics revealing that only 25% of women work full-time, therefore making it difficult for them to progress and flourish in their careers[iii].

Winning companies are those that look inside their organisation to attract, recruit and retain the best talent regardless of gender.

Of course, there are real-life success stories such as Julie Bishop (Australia’s first female foreign minister), Maile Carnegie (former Australian Google chief), Catherine Livingstone (chair of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia) and of course, the formidable Gina Rinehart who famously turned around the mining company she inherited from her father. Sadly, for the majority of women, it appears that many organisations, both in the private and public sector, are good at talking about gender equality but poor at putting it into practice by overlooking 50% of their workforce for senior roles.

Changing the mindset along with the job spec

The world might have moved on with digital transformation and smarter working but the general mindset towards women appears fixed in a time-warp. The problem is, if you ignore 50% of your total workforce, how can you expect to compete against more enlightened organisations at home and abroad? The questions should be how do you attract and find more women? How to empower and then keep them? These are questions that can apply to all employees, regardless of gender.

Here are a few tips to get started on reassessing the corporate mindset:

•Make a conscious decision to change – by introducing an organisational model that is committed to diversity and actively sponsors rising women

•Start from within – the chances are the employees you already have know your culture, understand how your company works and are loyal. Why waste time and money on outside recruiters when you might already have the best candidates within your existing talent pool?

•Get the job spec right – the mining industry is a classic example of a sector that faces skills shortages but dig a little deeper and you’ll find they sell their jobs to men rather than make them attractive career opportunities for both sexes. Pitch the job correctly and you’ll find the right people. In particular focus on areas that appeal to women for example, flexible working practices, transparent pay structures and maternity leave

•Introduce new workplace planning practices – such as ‘redesigning roles to enable flexible work’ and ‘supporting talent through life transitions’ to create a more inclusive work environment, practices that McKinsey believes are proven to achieve greater gender equality[iv]. In uncomfortable or hazardous industries such as marine engineering or defence, simple measures like improving the working environment are good ways of addressing skills shortages. Most recently, the Australian Defence Force revealed that its new fleet of submarines are to “have better living conditions as well as be more female friendly”, a definite move in the right direction.[v]

Using Workforce Management to close the gender gap

Another tip is to review the technology that manages your people and other resources. Today’s Workforce Management (WFM) technology offers a practical and secure all-in-one solution for recruitment, onboarding and asset management while keeping personal details safe – at anytime, anywhere, using a variety of mobile devices. Automation simplifies and accelerates the recruitment process to eliminate the common feeling of disenchantment that can follow a long and lengthy interview procedure. Tap into existing talent and maximise their potential using key WFM capabilities:

•One solution, single view of all candidates – the beauty of modern integrated WFM technology is it links seamlessly with critical HR databases and ERP systems to provide a complete view of all employees. Details such as gender, age, career and pay history, past roles and future aspirations are presented in real-time making it easy to source and match candidates against current vacancies

•Make the most of self-service apps – enhance employee engagement by allowing access to WFM systems via mobile applications on people’s mobile devices. Knowing in advance about shifts, travel and career options both at work or at home via a mobile device provides more control over work-life balance which is important to everyone whatever their gender

•Turn information into insight – use WFM as a powerful workforce planning tool to conduct ‘what if’ scenarios such as time for maternity and paternity leave and the flexibility to accommodate career breaks or role changes for working parents.

•Don’t just attract them, keep them – make the most of WFM data to focus on relevant and tailored e-training programmes that empower people and allow them to learn at a time and place to suit them. They’ll be happier and more likely to stay put!
Get out of that time-warp and don’t ignore the hidden workforce. The rewards will be lower staff attrition and recruitment costs and higher levels of productivity and operational efficiency.

A whirlwind tour of Fotis Georgiadis' work, interviews and interests.

The best moments in life are unplanned. We designed a camera to capture them – OPKIX ONE”

— OPKIX

GREENWICH, CT, USA, February 28, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Fotis Georgiadis, owner of the blog by his namesake, is a branding and image consultant with a robust background and is a visionary interviewer.

Technology is shaping the future in ways that we didn't expect, even a few short years ago. With the advent of 5G, ubiquitous Wi-Fi, realistic virtual reality, artificial intelligence and more, the technological landscape has changed dramatically. Fotis Georgiadis has jumped on the high speed train to the future and interviewed a number of company representatives on the “Bleeding Edge” of technology. Thereby bringing this view of the future to the masses.

One such company recently interviewed by Fotis Georgiadis is Connexient. CEO Mark Green took some time to discuss 'indoor GPS' technologies. The interview is not just about the specific technology but brings out the person being interviewed. Hospitals are one area where indoor GPS systems can really help patients, doctors and visitors. Gone are the days of trying to find the name and location of a doctor or specific wing of a hospital by looking at the sign on the wall and trying to figure out where 'I am here' really is. Grab your smartphone, input your destination and the software will find the best route. As a result, people will no longer miss appointments because they can't find the correct office, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing costs.

“Was there a “tipping point” that led you to this breakthrough? Can you tell us that story?”

“The tipping point that led us to MediNav was realizing that people would come to expect the same type of mapping and navigation experience indoors, as they get outdoors. Using Google Maps or Waze while driving has become a way of life.”

This technology can be used for stadiums, race tracks, office complexes, cruise ships and more. Coming to an app store near you! Read all about Mark Green and Connexient here: https://tinyurl.com/yyfw72bt

Using a smartphone to capture life's moments can be fantastic but also challenging. Fotis Georgiadis took Lawrence “LG” Greaves, CEO of OPKIX, to the mat for some 1 on 1 discussions. Not only is OPKIX making “the world’s smallest, smartest, wearable cameras and video editing app”, they are also “looking to leverage the next phase of artificial intelligence to enhance the user experience of photo and video sharing” explained Lawrence “LG” Greaves, CEO of OPKIX. By interviewing the OPKIX CEO, Fotis Georgiadis is helping solidify their brand recognition, thereby increasing the reach of this new technology to a wider audience.

“All credit for the initial concept goes to my business partner, Shahin Armirpour. Shahin is an avid snowboarder. While snowboarding during 2016 in ultra low temperatures, his wearable camera not only died in the cold, but took forever to transfer video files…Not to mention, it wasn’t aesthetically designed, either.” commented Lawrence “LG” Greaves when asked about the tipping point that led to this wearable camera breakthrough.

Delve deeper into OPKIX and Lawrence “LG” Greaves by visiting http://www.fotisgeorgiadis.com

Fotis Georgiadis helps develop branding and awareness of both companies and individuals. A recent interview of Greg Shepard, a private angel investor/venture capitalist, not only furthered Greg's name/brand, but also brought to the forefront one of his current brand projects “a transit company looking to change the way people use public transportation. Subway, bus and metro rail riders across the country, both within big cities and in the surrounding areas, will attest to the frustrating inefficiency of the transit system.” Greg Shepard went on to explain how this company is changing the old magnetic strip technology to a chip that provides real time data to a cloud based system. As a result of better scheduling, location data, commuter congestion at a location and more, riders no longer are in the dark as to when the next bus or train will arrive.

“Things I Wish Someone Told Me Before I Started” – Greg Shepard

– Seek out mentors that fill your gaps
– Always take the high road
– Stay humble
– Surround yourself with honest people who carry similar values as you

Read the full interview over here: https://tinyurl.com/y66m626h

We can see by the above examples that Fotis Georgiadis is generating brand awareness for these companies and individuals in a more extensive way. The interviews serve as a mini biography of the individuals. Where they came from, how the project they are working on came about, what they see coming down the road. All of this information helps strengthen the 'imprint' of a brand across the web. In this digital age, there is no perfect way of getting word out about a company, a product or an individual. It becomes a combination of multiple avenues including, but not limited to, press releases, blog posts, social media, written/audio/video interviews and more, something Fotis Georgiadis specializes in. Head on over to his website for more articles and information.

Big Brown Bear Comeback Across Northern Spain

Brown Bear Conservation

wildlife and birding in Cantabria

Cantabrian Brown Bear

From ‘dangerous killers’, to the most admired animal on the mountainside, the Cantabrian Brown Bear is re-finding its feet in the mountains of Northern Spain.

Here in Somiedo, 50% of the economy is based on hospitality. Today, 80% of the hotel rooms are booked by people who wake up at 5am, excited to see bears out in the wild”

— Jose Luis Valle

OAKHAM, RUTLAND, UNITED KINGDOM, February 27, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — From ‘dangerous killers’, to the most admired animal on the mountainside, the Cantabrian Brown Bear is re-finding its feet in the mountains of Northern Spain.

The once endangered Cantabrian Brown Bear has made a remarkable comeback across the region after years of heavy persecution. Through careful habitat management, there are now more than 250 Brown Bears recorded in the mountains. This includes 64 breeding females, with regular surveys carried out on 40 females and their cubs.

Ranging from deep chestnut to blonde rugged fur, these distinctive characters are well-known across the world. Forget the cute and cuddly teddies on your bedroom floor; real, live 350kg Brown Bears are majestic, powerful and mysterious.
While Britain’s native Brown Bear population died out around 1,000 years ago, many European colonies have thrived in Spain, South Central Italy, the Carpathians, Scandinavia and across Russia.

The Cantabrian Mountains stretch more than 300km across the country, from the Western Pyrenees to the coast of the Cantabrian Sea. With peaks exceeding 7,000ft, dense forest and isolated plateaus, the Cantabrians host a varied source of habitat for the Brown Bear to live without the threat of human violence.

Up until the 17-18th centuries, the Cantabrian Brown Bear population was much more far-reaching. Hunting, poaching and disregard for Brown Bear habitat are the top three reasons that numbers fell, with dead bears being highly prized.
As a ‘priority species’, granted special protection in Spain since 1973, environmentalists have been fighting the bears’ corner for nearly half a century.

Conservationists from Spanish wildlife organisations such as the Brown Bear Foundation (Fundación Oso Pardo), eco-tourism companies and residents, are pleased to welcome the bears back to the area as both humans and bear learn to live more peacefully.

Alliances with local people and education programmes mean less poaching and trapping, with people born and bred in the local upland villages reaping the benefits of eco-tourism and spreading the word.
Local hotel manager, Jose Luis Valle, revealed: “Here in Somiedo, 50% of the economy is based on hospitality. Today, 80% of the hotel rooms are booked by people who wake up at 5am, excited to see bears out in the wild.”

More Than Birds is a local wildlife company offering wildlife and birding in Leon tours, established in Lugueros, a tiny village with just 25 inhabitants in the heart of the Cantabrian Mountains, and frequently takes groups to see the bears for themselves.

Who better to organise a wildlife tour than one of the local wildlife specialists based in Spain itself. Their local knowledge and expert, English-speaking guides, who live and breathe the country’s astonishing wildlife, mean that you have the very best chance of catching up with the key species you want to see. And the comprehensive selection of wildlife specialists and tours enable travellers to book the tour they want directly, simply by using the enquiry tab on each listings page.
