Maui's premier fine art gallery celebrates the spirit, vision, and genius of extraordinary artists Picasso, Chagall and Dalí from March 1st-31st 2020

“Art is about imagination. When you look at a picture from Salvador Dali, that's about imagination. When you look at Picasso, that's about imagination. Doing stuff from your heart”.”

— LL Cool J

MAUI, HI, USA, March 2, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Salvador Dalí hardly need an introduction. These iconic modern artists captured the public's interest and imagination, and to this day, each remains a touchstone for what the finest 20th-century art is all about.

Beginning March 1st, Martin Lawrence Galleries on Front Sreet in Lahaina will be presenting breathtaking masterworks by these artists, including Chagall’s Amoureux au bouquet de dahlias, Dali’s Caracol de Mar and Picasso’s Ô Pamplemousses (Corps Perdu)

“My hands were too soft. I had to find some special occupation, some kind of work that would not force me to turn away from the sky and the stars, that would allow me to discover the meaning of life”. Marc Chagall

A scene of quiet solitude, some of Chagall's most famous and striking symbolic references are seen here in "Amoureux au bouquet de dahlias.” No stranger to paintings with lovers and details referencing fertility, a part of this piece that differentiates is the central focus of the flowers. Beautiful red and yellow dahlias swing relaxed in a vase, instead of bringing the couple to the center of attention. Perhaps this center of focus reflects the beauty of a moment, where the sun hits in the room. By bringing the flowers to the center of attention, Chagall concentrates on the raw aspect of love, the intimacy of a moment lying next to a loved one. And as if in Chagall's headspace, in the top left is the image of a rooster with a figure lying down, suggesting a daydream of Chagall reliving loving memories of home. Set in his iconography, and rooted within his background, Chagall's references to Vitebsk and religion are always apparent. A perfect work for collectors of the artist's most popular subject matter – lovers and flowers.

Also included in the exhibition is "Lovers in Bouquet of Dahlias," a watercolor created in 1971 with, tempera, pastel, color pencil and pencil on heavy vellum paper. Chagall's originality lay in his very personal synthesis of the influences he seized on from all sides.

“I do not paint a portrait to look like the subject, rather does the person grow to look like his portrait." Salvador Dali

The rivalry between Salvador Dalí and Pablo Picasso resulted in some of the 20th century's most recognizable art. Both artists are regarded as members of the "Spanish Avant-Garde" Dalí's work entitled "Caracol de Mar," a gouache and ink on cardstock, depicts a sculptural seashell as a magic toy arising from the sea and an angel caressing a Christmas tree from our dreams.

Caracol de Mar was completed in 1976 and loaned to the Dalí Museum, Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation in 2000.

“Art is about imagination. When you look at a picture from Salvador Dali, that's about imagination. When you look at Picasso, that's about imagination. Doing stuff from your heart”. LL Cool J

The Corps Perdu series was created by Picasso to illustrate Aime Cesaire’s book of poetry Corps Perdu (The Lost Body), published in 1950. Picasso, however, also knew Cesaire personally. Picasso and Cesaire met at the World Congress of Intellectuals for Peace in 1948. They discovered a shared interest in politics, art, and some of the ideas underlying surrealism—namely, the idea of a powerful unconscious mind. Picasso's illustrations in Corps Perdu strive to find the intersection of the African diaspora and Picasso's art. The engraving with burin was used by printmakers to create sharp, crisp lines on the etching plate, which translated into the same on the printed image.

CHTA CONGRATULATES BAHAMIAN ON ANGOSTURA GLOBAL COCKTAIL CHALLENGE VICTORY

Angostura’s Chairman Terrence Bharath (left) presents Bahamian Marv Cunningham with a check for US$10,000 after he was named the winner of the 10th ANGOSTURA Global Cocktail Challenge (AGCC) in Port of Spain, Trinidad last weekend.

PORT OF SPAIN, TRINIDAD, March 2, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) congratulated Bahamian Marv Cunnigham for winning last weekend's 10th ANGOSTURA Global Cocktail Challenge (AGCC) in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

The event, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad on Saturday, saw the Taste of the Caribbean Hall of Fame Inductee eclipse eight competitors for the global title and a cash prize of US$10,000. Cunningham also earned a two-year contract to serve as the ANGOSTURA Global Brand Ambassador, showcasing ANGOSTURA bitters and rum products to international audiences.

Vanessa Ledesma, CHTA's Chief Operations Officer, said the victory helps to propel the Caribbean food and beverage industry. "Marv is the epitome of Caribbean passion and excellence, and we are thrilled that the region emerged victorious in this global competition," she said.

The Bahamian mixologist wowed the judges with a 'Mas-Curried' rum cocktail and an Amaro cocktail entitled 'Amaro Bank Burst'. In addition to winning the overall title, Cunningham also won the award for Best Rum Cocktail.

Cunningham, who has been bartending for more than 20 years, is a two-time winner of CHTA's Taste of the Caribbean Best Caribbean Bartender award as a member of the team from The Bahamas, winning in 2015 and 2016 before returning to judge the competition in 2017.

He said winning the challenge meant a lot for the Caribbean. "It goes to show that we have the talent here, we have gifted bartenders here, not just bartenders but a gifted people in general and we belong," he said.

He credited the Taste of the Caribbean regional competition and educational experience and the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association's national competition for helping him reach this pinnacle in his career. "Being able to provide a platform for bartenders in the region to compete against each other to help develop themselves, to help further (develop) their skills. It is a great feeling and I'm very (grateful) to CHTA and Taste of the Caribbean for what they have done because they are more about teaching. Getting a medal is okay, but at the end of the day this is what counts – that development aids in things like this."

Also competing in the challenge was 2018 Caribbean Bartender of the Year, Shana Rajahram of Trinidad and Tobago, who said it was an honor to represent female bartenders around the world and to reach such a high level of competition and excellence.

This year's Taste of the Caribbean will be held from June 26-30, 2020, at Hyatt Regency Miami. The event features top culinary teams from Caribbean nations and territories competing for recognition and awards.

mycloud Hospitality Logo

The award-winning mycloud hospitality platform is constantly innovating. The cloud-based platform’s latest upgrades include a CRS, travel agents & marketplace.

As a leading hospitality management solution that is trusted by hotel chains around the world, we want to ensure that mycloud continues to exceed expectations at every turn.”

— Deepak Chauhan

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, March 2, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The mycloud hospitality platform is known for its strong performance and commitment to innovation. Even so, the cloud-based system from Prologic First has surprised the hospitality industry with just how many new features it is delivering for 2020.

mycloud is a complete cloud hotel management software solution that allows hoteliers to introduce efficiencies and improve revenues at every level of their business. It blends an advanced, powerful PMS with a centralized reservation system (CRS) and e-POS solution, along with a host of other features.

Now, the mycloud team has revealed three comprehensive enhancements for 2020. Prologic First Vice President – Cloud Solutions, Deepak Chauhan, comments,

“As a leading hospitality management solution that is trusted by hotel chains around the world, we want to ensure that mycloud continues to exceed expectations at every turn. That’s why we’ve introduced a range of new and upgraded features. The result is that mycloud offers a true multi-property solution like no other.”
Front and centre of the new features is the central reservations system. The CRS has been designed to allow chain hotels to see inventories, rates and operational details for all properties on a single screen, allowing reservations to be made swiftly and easily. Combined with the new central operational timeline management functionality, the CRS allows hoteliers to sell every last room with absolute confidence, thus maximising occupancy rates across each of their establishments.

mycloud has also upgraded its chain-wide reporting features, meaning that managers can review chain-wide analysis, including data comparisons, at a single glance. The central guest profile functionality, meanwhile, allows hoteliers to manage corporate and travel agent profiles more closely than ever, including viewing contracts across multiple properties and analysing revenue and productivity statistics.

Then there’s the new marketplace, which offers over 200 interfaces. These include multiple distribution platforms, guest experience management systems, payment gateways, revenue management products and many more: everything a modern hotelier could need to improve their efficiencies and grow their bottom line.

Finally, mycloud has introduced a new, mobile web booking engine. This can be used for multiple properties, including multiple trips across properties in a single itinerary.

All of these features come at an exceptional time for the global tourism industry. The total retail value of the worldwide hotel industry surpassed US$500 billion in 2018, with a growth of 6-7% projected for 2019. Travel and tourism now account for more than 10% of global GDP, according to Deloitte and Statista.

Set against this backdrop, mycloud’s user-friendly interface and comprehensive suite of back and front office systems is just what hoteliers need. Independent guesthouses, motel, and hotel chains, holiday resorts… mycloud makes it easier and more cost-effective to manage all these and more.

mycloud has already scooped several awards for its innovative offering. The fully automated, SaaS-based hospitality management solution is easy to implement, with comprehensive functionality that spans the entire hotel management process. It’s also highly customizable and configurable, with clients able to pay for only the functionality they need, making mycloud affordable for even single-property hospitality businesses.

With future forecasting, an integrated channel manager and automated distribution to OTAs all built-in, there’s nothing that mycloud can’t manage. The e-POS allows for easy management of food, beverage, and retail sales, while back-office functionality covers central purchasing and inventory, central accounts receivable and payable and consolidated reporting. Even housekeeping and maintenance services fall within mycloud’s purview.

By enhancing hospitality business’ operational efficiency through a full chain management approach, mycloud allows for strategic decision making and planning like never before.

mycloud is available to hospitality businesses in the UK, USA, UAE, Philippines, Thailand, India and Singapore. Visit www.mycloudhospitality.co.uk or email info@mycloudhospitality.com for further details of the multi-award-winning mycloud hospitality platform.

Keraton Jimbaran Resort Introduces the Art of Canang Sari to All of the Guests

Canang Sari Session at Keraton Jimbaran Resort

BADUNG, BALI, INDONESIA, March 2, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Channelling the authenticity of Balinese heritage, Keraton Jimbaran Resort invites all the guests to experience a deeper level of Balinese culture by partaking Balinese Activity session. The session is held every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the resort. During the session, the females will learn on how to make the Canang Sari, and the males will learn on how to make Kelangsah – handwoven coconut leaves which usually used in religious ceremonies. All the activity is under the guidance of local staff at Keraton Jimbaran Resort who not only showing the step by step of creating these delicate arrangements, but also introducing the philosophy behind it which is the sense of gratitude and self-reflection.

One of the fascinating traits about Bali is its rich culture that remains rooted and intact despite the increasing wave of modernisation, therefore mega pieces such prodigious carvings and statues, stones and temples, enthrall parade of religious ceremonies, to the simple piece like Canang Sari (offering to the God) are everywhere to be found.

Anyone that has roamed around the island must have seen those dainty coconut leaves tray filled with rice, colourful flowers, and incense dotted on the each of entrance streets, in front of the houses and shops, as well as on the temples. Despite its petite size, Canang Sari is possessed with a profound meaning – an offering to the Gods as a form of gratitude of the peace given to the world.

The bases of Canang Sari are made of coconut leaf, betel nut and lime which represent the three Hindu deities of supreme divinity in Hinduism, respectively Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva that are epitome for creation, perseverance, and unity. Collectively, each different colours of flowers placed to specific direction symbolises a Hindu God. White flowers that point to the east are for Iswara, the God of Nature, red flowers that point to the south are offered to the Brahma, symbolising the power of creation, yellow flowers that point to the west are for Mahadeva, and the blue or green flowers are faced to the northern direction for the God Vishnu, symbolising as a protection.

In addition to the symbolic coverage that the offering bears, the offering goes through lengthy hand-made process; women craft the basket, assembly the material, place them in specific meaningful directions, sprinkle with holy water, and finished with a burning incense. As the incense catches fire and smokes start to linger creating a unique aroma, the fusion of earth, fire, water and air is now complete. While a little prayer is spoken softly, the smokes carry the essences of the offerings up to the Gods. This serves its purposes of gratitude and sacrifices by the Hindu Balinese, and, if you see a small amount of money and food such as candies or cookies placed on the Canang Sari, this is symbolised as to give back what one has received.

How the Novel Coronavirus is affecting the TEFL Industry

COVID-19 is easily treatable

COVID-19 is easily treatable

COVID-19 has brought China to a standstill but the TEFL industry is still thriving.

VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA, March 1, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Anyone who’s turned on a TV, read a newspaper or accessed the internet in 2020 has undoubtedly heard of the novel Coronavirus, recently named COVID-19 by scientists.

The headlines and sensational reporting on the Coronavirus has gripped the world in fear as citizens of more and more countries are getting infected and the numbers continue to climb. As of February 24th 2020, there are a reported 79,737 confirmed cases internationally and 2,628 deaths.

While the coronavirus is a very contagious pandemic, it’s actually not much more dangerous than the common flu and the global panic is largely unwarranted. Just like a regular flu, the majority of infected people will make a full recovery and 25,271 of the confirmed 79,737 cases have already recovered. Deaths via COVID-19 are mainly in the infirm and elderly; sadly common with any strain of flu.

The coronavirus is believed to have originated in the wet markets of Wuhan, China early in 2020 which is where the vast majority of cases have been contained in a strict quarantine by the Chinese government.

While the majority of the world is largely unaffected, China is a different story. Even outside of Wuhan, normally bustling cities are seemingly deserted and empty with citizens choosing to stay home and wait out the pandemic rather than go to work or school and risk infection.

Because of this, China and it’s vast and powerful economy has been brought to a grinding halt, a mean feat for the country with the world’s largest population.

So how does this affect the TEFL Industry?

China has the highest demand for TEFL teachers in the world and offers some of the best salaries and employment packages available to qualified EFL teachers.

However, along with the rest of China’s economy, schools have also been shut down in most cities and provinces with children staying home to avoid the risk of infection. Many TEFL teachers already in China have been given a temporary leave of absence and have the option to either wait out the coronavirus in their homes in China or return to their native country temporarily until the outbreak subsides. Most of the provinces/cities in China are treating the outbreak differently but almost all provinces have been pushing the expected school resume date further and further back. Some provinces expect school to be back up and running as early as mid March but many TEFL teachers already in China speculate that there’s a high possibility of things remaining closed until as late as mid April. Some schools are continuing classes online where teachers and students can connect via apps. The Chinese government has mandated that all employees have to be paid their full salary during the outbreak regardless of how many work days are missed which is great news for teachers currently in China.

Hiring of more TEFL teachers in China has been largely halted but it’s expected to resume in full swing once the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak is over. The TEFL industry in most other countries has been largely unaffected with the exceptions of Korea and Japan where the toll for those infected with the coronavirus is steadily on the rise. Vietnam is also starting to see a climb in confirmed COVID-19 infections.

Asia still has many other great options for those wishing to teach abroad like Thailand and Indonesia to name a couple. There are also tons of TEFL jobs In European countries like Spain and the Czech Republic. Latin America is also untouched by the coronavirus.

Despite the current damage COVID-19 has wreaked on the Chinese economy, it’s not to say that China’s TEFL industry has completely shut down. Where one industry comes to a halt, another ramps up to fill the void left in the market and that’s where online teaching comes in.

Rather than have their children sitting at home idle with nothing to do, many Chinese parents have opted to continue their child’s education online, where classes are taught via video chat and there is no risk of infection.

Online teaching is nothing new. It remains the fastest growing sector of the TEFL market today even without the added surge from the coronavirus outbreak. Teaching online has many appeals to it like flexibility in hours and the ability to earn a decent salary without ever leaving the comfort of your own home. For the hardcore adventurer, online teaching also gives one the option of being truly nomadic. You can teach from anywhere in the world with an internet connection leaving you free to travel wherever you like and earn the money needed to do so. It’s truly a wondrous innovation in education.

Online teaching sessions are usually one-on-one which is generally far easier than teaching a classroom full of 30 plus students where behavioural issues can be difficult to address. An average teaching session lasts about an hour and largely consists of conversational practice.

A bachelor's degree, passport from a native English speaking country and teaching experience do all go a long way in the online job hunt but they are not strictly necessary; there are hundreds of reputable online teaching companies out there and not all of them have strict requirements.

The one main requirement for most online teaching companies is a TEFL certificate of at least 100 hours which is obtained easily enough. Upon completion of your TEFL course, your TEFL provider will be able to help you secure an online job without too much trouble.

So don’t let fear of the coronavirus prevent you from getting your TEFL certification and earning a great salary either from the comfort of your own home or in an exciting and exotic destination abroad. Head over to our course page today!
