HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, March 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Hard Rock International Unveils Plans for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan— Giorgio Borlenghi, Chairman of The Interfin Companies
Development to begin mid-2026 with opening targeted for 2029
Hard Rock International has announced a partnership with Misla Hospitality, Stonecrest Investment Management, and The Interfin Companies to develop the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino San Juan. The $850 million new-build project is expected to open in 2029, with construction beginning mid-2026.
Marking Hard Rock’s first hotel, casino, and branded residential development in Puerto Rico, the project will reflect the rhythm and culture of San Juan while introducing a bold new hospitality destination to the capital city. Designed by Klai Juba Wald and CMA Architects, the property will incorporate elements inspired by Puerto Rico’s musical and cultural heritage, including works by local artists.
Governor Jenniffer González-Colón emphasized the project’s impact on the island’s economy. “This significant $850 million investment, in addition to generating jobs and becoming another attraction for the island, helps continue positioning Puerto Rico as an ideal destination in the Caribbean — a destination for tourism, living, and global investment,” she said.
Overlooking both San Juan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, the development will include approximately 415 guest rooms, 58 suites, and 186 Hard Rock Branded Residences. The resort will also introduce an integrated casino experience, event venues, a recording studio, and curated music memorabilia, reinforcing Hard Rock’s identity as a music-inspired brand.
“Music is at the heart of both Hard Rock and Puerto Rico, making this a perfect union,” said Jeff Hook, Chief Operating Officer at Hard Rock International. “San Juan is a natural extension of our portfolio. We’re honored to create a destination that celebrates Puerto Rico’s rich music and arts scene while welcoming visitors and locals alike.”
Guests can expect multiple dining venues ranging from casual poolside offerings to upscale cuisine, as well as several bars throughout the property. Additional amenities will include the signature Rock Spa®, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and three terrace-level pools. Family-friendly features will include a kids’ club, arcade, and curated teen spaces, ensuring the property appeals to multigenerational travelers.
Giorgio Borlenghi, Chairman of The Interfin Companies, underscored the project’s long-term vision. “Drawing from five decades of global development experience and shaped by my upbringing in Italy surrounded by history and architecture, we are proud to partner with Hard Rock on this transformative project for San Juan. Working closely with local partners, artists, and community leaders, we are committed to cultural preservation, environmental responsibility, and meaningful community engagement. Our goal is to deliver a world-class destination that reflects Puerto Rico’s heritage while generating lasting economic and social value.”
The project is expected to create more than 2,500 construction jobs and approximately 1,250 permanent positions once operational. Hard Rock has stated its commitment to maximizing local participation through partnerships focused on economic opportunity and cultural promotion.
Tourism leaders welcomed the announcement. Willianette Robles Cancel, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, described the project as a significant milestone that strengthens the island’s lodging portfolio, enhances visitor experience, and supports long-term destination growth—particularly in a strategically located area near cruise ports and historic Old San Juan.
Jorge L. Pérez, President and CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, added that the development expands hotel capacity in one of the island’s most iconic districts. He noted that the project will complement the cruise segment, elevate the culinary scene, and strengthen Puerto Rico’s ability to attract international events and conventions, reinforcing its competitiveness as a global destination.
Conveniently located near Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport and adjacent to Old San Juan, the property will offer direct access to one of the Caribbean’s most historic and vibrant districts, known for its Spanish colonial architecture, museums, galleries, and waterfront fortresses.
